Psychological Solutions saves B&Q 60% time and 30% recruitment costs

Since July 2002 the Persona questionnaire has been at the heart of B&Q's hiring strategy. Research conducted by Psychological Solutions was used to develop a web based assessment and grading system for management applicants.
The system uses a range of complex calculations to predict applicants' job performance and has been so accurate that "The quality of our candidates is certainly going up" says Mike Cutt, B&Q Personnel Director. Applicants are given instant feedback on their results and this encourages unsuitable candidates to self-select out of the process, thus saving B&Q precious time and recruitment resources whilst also enhancing the branding of the Company.
Persona has been so successful that a similar system for shopfloor staff was launched in January 2003 and has successfully processed more than 50,000 applicants. The accuracy and efficiency of the system mean that B&Q will recoup its initial investment within the first year of operation says Rob Barnett, B&Q Policy and Services Controller.
Psychological Solutions is now carrying out research to align B&Q's recruitment and development programmes using Persona and Ethos.
