Psychological Solutions builds on Personnel Today Award Win

The unique features of the Psychological Solutions approach to online assessment have already led to academic acclaim and commercial success.

To build on the achievements of winning the Personnel Today Award for Innovation in Recruitment and Retention, PsychSol has been conducting research in variety of languages across the globe throughout 2006 and 2007.

A primary aim of this latest research has been to compare the structure of personality and cognitive functions across cultures. Dr Colin Gill said, “We know an awful lot about the psychology of people who speak European languages, but much less research has focused on the potential differences and similiarities within and across other linguistic groups. We’ve been able to extend and investigate some of the ideas I originally put forward about 10 years ago in a paper about the relationships between language, psychology and the self. This has enabled PsychSol to develop new language versions of Persona, Ethos and a range of culture-free reasoning assessments.” Fellow psychologist Christine Gibson commented, “It’s been really exciting to be involved in research that addresses so many theoretical issues and provides answers of practical benefit in so many areas of applied psychology. At last we are beginning to understand how personality and intelligence are expressed and can be consistently measured across humanity.”
As part of this ongoing research Dr Colin Gill and Professor Gerard Hodgkinson have published an important academic paper that will form the yardstick for developing personality assessments in the future. The article “Development and validation of the Five Factor Model Questionnaire (FFMQ): An adjectival-based personality instrument for use in occupational settings?” appears in Personnel Psychology (2007, 60, 731-736) and explains the development process and validation of the Persona personality test. The Five Factor Model Questionnaire is freely available to researchers and for use in some commercial applications.
